The "LearnByDoing" initiative is transforming the educational landscape in Pune by providing students with an engaging, hands-on approach to learning science. The initiative, which benefits over 2,000 students in rural schools, is supported by the Abhay Bhutada Foundation and powered by Sakar Eduskills. Through the distribution of STEM kits, the program is making science more engaging and accessible to students who may not otherwise have had such opportunities.
A Practical Approach to Science Learning

Instead of simply reading about scientific theories in textbooks, students are now able to conduct real experiments with hands-on tools provided in the STEM kits. This practical approach helps students grasp complex scientific concepts with ease and excitement, especially in rural areas where traditional science labs are often unavailable.
The Role of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation

The success of the "LearnByDoing" initiative is thanks to the vital support of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation. The foundation has facilitated the distribution of STEM kits to schools in rural Pune, including Bursewadi, Kelgaon, and Dhanore, where students previously lacked the resources for practical science education.
Enthusiastic Responses from Students
Students have shown great enthusiasm for the hands-on learning experiences offered by the STEM kits. Teachers have noted how much easier it is for students to grasp difficult scientific concepts through the interactive kits. One Class 7 student recalled their excitement at using a microscope for the first time, discovering microscopic organisms—a memorable experience that sparked a love for science.
Why Hands-On Learning is Key
Research has shown that hands-on learning leads to better comprehension and retention of knowledge. By engaging students directly with the material, hands-on learning makes the learning process more effective and enjoyable. In addition to improving their understanding of science, students also develop valuable skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Providing Equal Opportunities
One of the main objectives of the "LearnByDoing" initiative is to provide equal educational opportunities for students in rural areas. Many of these students have never had access to a science lab or interactive learning tools. Thanks to the STEM kits, these students can now experience science education in ways they never could before, leveling the playing field and giving them the same opportunities as urban students.
Encouraging Family Involvement
The impact of the initiative goes beyond the classroom. As students return home excited about what they’ve learned, many parents become more involved in their children’s education. This increased parental engagement is fostering a supportive learning environment at home, which in turn helps students perform better academically.
Looking to the Future
With ongoing support from Abhay Bhutada, the "LearnByDoing" initiative is expected to continue growing. By expanding the reach of hands-on STEM education, the initiative is setting students up for future academic success and preparing them for challenges in the ever-evolving world of science.
